The first game of the night was the ladies which ended in a score of 65 to 48. As far as play, Coach Ken Welk stated, “We did a good job, especially in the first half. We only gave up 16 points,”.
Leading the scoring was JR. Gabbie Ronngren, with 29 points, three 3-pointers, and being 10 of 11 at the free throw line. “She was scoring from all over the place … from around the basket, the 3-point line,” stated Welk.
Overall, the Seahawks defense was on point, a necessity as stated by Welk. It was a great win that set the stage for the boys game to come.
On the boys side, the game was much closer, with a final score of 49 to 50. The Seahawks trailed during most of the game, the score fluctuating frequently.
With two and a half minutes to go Anacortes was down by nine, but they rallied back, raising the score and the stakes by making it 49 to 48 with 11 seconds to go. SR Trystan Lowery got the rebound and passed down court to SR Jacob South who made the game winning layup, making it 49 to 50.
“It was a close one,” Anacortes Coach Brett Senff said. “Honestly, Ferndale should have won the game. I still don’t know how we won it.”
SR Tyler Blouin led scoring with 19 points while South finished with 12. SO Kayden Flynn and Lowry finished with six points apiece.
Anacortes’s two wins leaves them with a seven and 12 for the girls and 18 and one for the boys. Their next game is Squalicum, with the girls being home and the boys away.
