ANACORTES, Wa- It was a beautiful day last Saturday, and what better way to spend it than inside the walls of the Fidalgo Pool, as the Boys Swim and Dive Northwest District competed for the district title. At the end of the weekend, the Anacortes boys team had brought home another district win and set many records along the way.

“Overall I thought it was really great” said SO. James Drew.  “The team was great. There was a lot of sportsmanship going on and everyone was congratulating each other. It was a really supportive atmosphere.”

There was no shortage of winning times for Anacortes. SR. Nathan Mathes won both the 50 freestyle (22.06) and 100 freestyle (48.28), setting the district record in the 100. JR. Emmett Moore swept the 100 fly (50.97) and took 2nd in the 100 back (53.79). SO Jacob Hoxie set the district record in the 100 breastroke (59.11)  and placed 2nd in the 200 IM (1:59.89)

JR. Spencer Snowman placed 4th in the 200 free (1:51.66) and 5th in the 500 free (5:07.72). JR. Maksym Bondar placed 3rd in the 200 IM (2:03.55) and 2nd in the 100 breast (1:00:99). His brother, JR. Alyosha Bondar placed 11th in the breastroke (1:09.99). SO Beau Omdal placed 2nd in the 100 fly (53.48) and 2nd in the 500 free (4:49.03). JR Logan Scamfer placed 10th in the 200 IM (2:31.28) and JR. Luke Rutz placed 12th in the 200 IM (2:42.46).

Anacortes placed first in all the relays. The 200 medley team, Moore, Hoxie, Omdal, and Drew, set a district and pool record with a time of 1:38.57. The 200 free relay team, Drew, Erickson, Bondar, and Mathes, finished with a time of 1:31.52, and the 400 free relay team, Erickson, Omdal, Moore, and Mathes, finished with a time of 3:20.29.

Anacortes also earned a lot of points in diving, with JR.  Zane Wentzell placing 5th with 277.35 points. “I’m going to state and I’m pretty stoked about that” Wentzell stated. When asked about the team, he stated “even though and dive are very different, having a team that really supports everyone helps not only me, but the team as a whole”.

“We’re extremely excited for state. We definitely have a good shot at bringing home the trophy this year.” stated Drew. The boys head to state this weekend. With such great comradery, hopefully they can bring home the state title all while having a great time competing.
